UKNIGHTED, LONE PEAK Check out the place where it all happens--this is Room 808, the production headquarters of Lone Peak's video news program. The studio has gotten one massive facelift since the days of beloved Gary Dunn...in fact, it doesn't even look like the same room. A knocked-out wall and a few "minor" (read: enormous) changes later, Room 808 now houses a studio comparable to universities and businesses across the country. From a curved green screen to an nearly-completed broadcast stage to the long-awaited Infinity Wall, the opportunities this place provides reach far beyond the classroom. Our executive producer and instructor, Dustin Topham, has poured his time, talent, and sweat into providing us with what is easily the best set our high school has or will ever see.
The curved green screen, set with lights and a ready-to-go camera, allows video editors to "key" (or remove) the green and place the subject in a different setting--now UKNIGHTED and Video Production kids could film anywhere from the Sahara to the moon.
A few steps past the green screen is an elevated American flag-clad anchor's desk, with a constant UKNIGHTED logo roll on the TV in the front. Launching soon on this stage is UKNIGHTED Live, a broadcast hosted by two of our own state-champion anchors. The broadcast stage is equipped with teleprompters, lights, and an anchor desk. A technical desk in the producer's room across from the stage controls how the show will appear in real-time. Broadcast teams also include a technical director, in charge of directing cameras, arranging lights, shifting from package to package, and keeping the show together. A floor director signals the directions of the technical director to the on-screen anchors. Our broadcast teams devote hours upon hours both during and outside of school to win their competitions and prepare for a school-wide live program.
Recently completed, the white Infinity Wall has lights positioned above it which change the entire screen to any color on command. It's roving light tracks allow for complete creative freedom and a world of possibilities, excellent for both photo and video. The white screen floor extends all the way to the other end of the room and the producers' editing and gear space. The options are endless; in the week it has been in operation, the screen has been used to film music videos, Student Council Minutes, an intro, a Fine Arts spot, and multiple other shorts.
With the bulk of construction finished, our teams are able to achieve more and more as they develop their skills. The UKNIGHTED staff is extremely grateful for the opportunities provided to us by our resources and instruction, and realize how fortunate we are. Check out the room and the show from our perspective, and get excited for what's coming: because we are UKNIGHTED.
